PNRRS statement regarding recent USA Rugby policy

Following the release of USA Rugby’s policy regarding transgender women’s participation, the Pacific Northwest Rugby Referee Society affirms our commitment to a rugby community built on respect, inclusion, and sportsmanship. We believe rugby is strongest when all participants are treated with dignity and valued as members of our community.

Transgender players are part of our rugby community and deserve safe, respectful match environments, just like any other participant.

As match officials, our responsibility is to apply the Laws of the Game and competition regulations. Referees do not determine or adjudicate player eligibility on the field, and we will not be questioning the gender of any participant as part of match administration. Eligibility issues should be addressed with the appropriate governing body.

We remain firmly committed to ensuring that all players, coaches, and spectators are treated with respect. Any abuse, discrimination, or misconduct will be addressed in accordance with established procedures.
